This project is a 1 ton per day (1T/D) walnut oil refining and winterization automatic production line, designed and manufactured by Shandong Shengshi Hecheng Machinery Factory.

What Is Winterization (Dewaxing)?

Winterization is a low-temperature purification process used to remove waxes, high-melting-point fats and turbidity substances from edible oils.

For walnut oil, winterization ensures:

  • Clear appearance at low temperature
  • No turbidity or crystallization in storage

Walnut Oil Refining & Winterization Process Flow

Step 1 – Crude Walnut Oil Heating

Crude walnut oil is heated to 90°C to prepare for degumming.


Step 2 – Degumming

  • Add phosphoric acid into Mixer 1
  • Phospholipids and gums are removed

Step 3 – Neutralization

  • Add alkali solution into Mixer 2
  • Free fatty acids are neutralized
  • Centrifuge 1 separates soapstock

Step 4 – Water Washing

  • Add hot water into Mixer 3
  • Centrifuge 2 removes wastewater
  • Clean oil phase obtained

Step 5 – Vacuum Drying

  • Moisture is removed under vacuum
  • Dry refined oil obtained

Step 6 – Bleaching (Key Control Point ★)

  • Heat oil to 100–110°C
  • Add bleaching earth & activated carbon
  • Perform vacuum bleaching

Step 7 – Filtration

  • Use fine filter press
  • Remove spent bleaching earth
  • Clarified oil obtained

Step 8 – Deodorization

  • Preheat oil with indirect steam
  • Inject direct steam under vacuum
  • Remove odor and volatile substances

Step 9 – Condensation & Vacuum System

  • Vapors enter condenser
  • Fatty acids collected in trap
  • Vacuum maintained by vacuum pump & cooling tower

Step 10 – Cooling

  • Deodorized oil is cooled
  • Ready for winterization or storage

Step 11 – Winterization (Dewaxing)

  • Oil is cooled in crystallization tanks
  • Wax crystals formed and aged
  • Filtered by winterization filter press

Step 12 – Wax Separation

  • Wax cake separated
  • Clear winterized oil obtained

Step 13 – Storage & Packaging

  • Finished walnut oil stored in tanks
